  • Human family requirements

I need a calm and quiet, adult only home where I can settle in at my own pace.

  • Other pet requirements

I will need a kind resident dog to take me under their wing. I have never met cats.

  • House and garden requirements

I would like a secure garden to spend time in.

  • Out and about requirements

I am learning all about walking on a lead and harness.

  • Training needs

I have never lived in a home so I will need help to learn house training.

  • Medical issues

I am spayed and ready to find my forever home.

Unity is a very frightened girl who has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She is finding everything very overwhelming at the moment and sadly it is becoming increasingly clear that this beautiful girl has not known much kindness or positive human interaction in her life. She is still so young, and it is devastating to see her so scared.

Unity's progress has been quite slow and someone who doesn't know her well may not notice any change at all. But to the people who care for her every day, those tiny steps mean everything. She will still run away from us in her kennel, but she now comes back and settles in her bed again. She no longer buries her head to hide herself from us and is becoming less stressed by having someone quietly sitting near her. These may sound like very small things, but for Unity, they are huge.

Kennels are loud and scary for any dog, let alone a traumatised one. As a result, Unity will not eat any food in the day time and will wait until everyone has gone home for the day and all of the other dogs are asleep before she will eat. We have even set up a camera in her kennel so we can monitor her eating and make sure she is getting what she needs.

Building a bond with Unity has been challenging as usually we entice scared dogs in with some yummy treats and goodies as incentive. This obviously doesn’t work with Unity as food is not a motivating factor for her at this current time. All we can offer her is gentle hands, patience and consistency. Despite being so incredibly frightened, Unity has never shown an ounce of reactivity. She is a gentle, sensitive girl who simply finds the world incredibly overwhelming right now.

There are signs that Unity is beginning to take tiny steps forward. She is now tentatively walking on a harness, although this will need lots more practice as we hope to continue building her confidence gradually. The next step will be to take her down to our big play yard with a group of confident and playful dogs, which may give her the little boost she needs.

Unity desperately needs a very special home. She will need patient, experienced adopters who truly understand frightened ex-breeding dogs and who will understand that progress with Unity may be incredibly slow. She will need a calm and quiet, adult only home where she can settle at her own pace and where her adopters are prepared to celebrate the tiniest victories along the way. She will also need to be homed with at least one other kind and confident resident dog who will take her under their wing and help her learn all about how wonderful her life can be.

Unity has never lived in a home before, so her adopters will need to be kind and understanding as she settles in and learns all about home life and new skills like house training. She is already kennel clean throughout the day and tries her very best overnight, so hopefully she will take to house training fairly well.

We truly believe that in the right home, with the right people, Unity will thrive. She has so much potential hidden beneath all that fear, and we desperately want someone to give her the chance to discover it. Although progress may be slow, it will be so worth it when you see her wag her tail for the first time or gently accept a treat with you watching.
